Mitch believes in the promise of more interdependent relationships and cultures. He is passionate about creating “liberation projects”, and supporting creative, subtle, and long-term expressions of freedom and “undominance” in individuals and communities. He is known for his inclusive, questioning, and non-directive approach to leadership and group development.
Mitch became a Certified Trainer with the Center for Nonviolent Communication in 2014. Since then, he has worked with hundreds of people, in workshops, intensives, summer camps, workplaces, and year-long programs. He was on the leadership team for the 2017 New York Intensive in NVC, and is a member of the Haven Educational Steering Group.
Mitch is also an award-winning writer and documentary filmmaker. He received the 2013 Writers Guild of Canada’s Screenwriting Award for his documentary A Sorry State, about the meaning of government apologies. He lives on Gabriola Island, BC, with his wife and co-facilitator Angela Walkley (also a Haven faculty member), and two sons.
